The text on the ritual of the virgins offers a detailed and suggestive description of the Adífò ceremony, transmitting its spiritual and cultural meaning (purity, belonging and respect for the ancestors and the gods). From an ethical point of view, elements such as public nudity of girls and body cuts could be perceived as problematic in the eyes of us Westerners. Furthermore, the role of women within society, linked to purity and marriage, leads us to question the meaning of this ceremony for future female emancipation.
