A policy brief prepared by PADO revealed that in countries where traditional religions are more popular, the ability is to control corruption (as measured by the Worldwide Governance Indicators) is lower.
This could be due to the fact that people who believe in a traditional religion have more tolerance for corruption, it could be due to the fact that in countries where you cannot trust a corrupt government you hold on to your traditional faith or it could be due to some other factors which is responsible for both the popularity of traditional religion in the population and the high level of corruption in the country.
The data presented by PADO reveals that both in Tanzania and Togo respondents who have a traditional mindset are more likely to tolerate corruption than respondents who have a more modern/scientific/rational mindset
