From Lomé to Port-au-Prince, and across the Afro-descendant diaspora, a new generation is embracing this ancestral spirituality with pride. But how and why is this revival happening?
A Youth in Search of Roots
Faced with globalization and the dominance of imported religions, many young Africans and Afro-descendants feel a need to reconnect with their cultural and spiritual roots. In Haiti, for example, young people play a key role in the revival of Vodou, a religion long demonized but deeply rooted in the country’s revolutionary history.
